Today's Workout 8/28

Today's Workout: medium distance run at up tempo pace. Harvard/2 Bridges/Real Deal. ~4 200's to open up. 6-8 strides on the grass.

What did you guys think?

I think this is one of the best workouts I've done in a while. Talking to RoJo and Mark Davis in the last 2 weeks has really affirmed my belief in long term development of distance runner, and this workout is what that's all about. Hitting runs that are faster than comfort zone like this are an awesome way to slowly but progressively build a body into a better distance runner. A lot of people have said thing along the lines that interval workouts and repetitions are quick fixes to get in shape, but the long term "fix" of being a better runner overall is developing a stronger and more solid aerobic delivery system and building more strength. Today was an excellent step in the right direction.

Personally, I felt fucking fantastic today. A little under the weather from last night, but yesterday was really easy, and everything in my legs was falling into place for the workout. I ran 2 Bridges with Lena and we clicked off probably a few 6:10 miles or so. It was also nice not running on mile marks. Not worrying about slowing down for a few seconds at an intersection is way more relaxing than trying to hit exact tempo times at each mile. Awesome, in short.

You?

Losing Motivation

Does anyone else ever lose the motivation to keep running? Sitting at my friend's house on Sunday afternoon, I just couldn't get out the door to run. I began questioning why I even run in the first place, and pushed all of the things I love about it out of my mind. I have never really enjoyed the actually act of running- I like the feeling of accomplishment afterward, and I like seeing my improvements. I also love the camaraderie of our team and following professional running. I was actually pretty close to quitting (or at least taking a long break). I didn't end up going out for a decent run that day, nor the next. I was pretty down on myself and on continuing running competitively. The constant worry and commitment can get very tiresome. I guess I needed that two day mental break, because yesterday and today I was ready to go again. The break revitalized my mind and my body. Anyone have any other similar thoughts or situations to share?

Training Gear for 2008-2009

So the year has just about begun, and JB (between rare spurts of doing actual work) has been asking me what I think people will want for the track training gear. We politely declined Skip's request for muscle tee's and pajamas.

We have a bunch of options. I was sort of thinking shorts like the ones 09 and dymez have (the black ones with the tufts T on the knee) and maybe sweatshirts, but not more gray like the ones the upperclassmen already have. We could also do a kick ass tech long sleeve like the one Rony and Kantos have. I think it's black with a blue T and Tufts on the back. Or the ones they got last year, the white long sleeve with the newer logo on the chest. We would obviously make it way more badass though.

Leave come comments. Whatever you would want to get as gear, make it heard. Maybe there's some crazy gear none of us have even thought of yet, like half tights.

R2C13

Let's go 'cocks. Let's go 'cocks.

this weekend the jumbostate gamecocks tore up the state of new jersey. we ended up running 9 hours 20 minutes and change for the 92 mile course across the state. i think we ended up with 7th fastest time (someone correct me if i'm wrong)

i thought it was a really fun race. it was kind of hectic at times since we had to coordinate getting people to the line and helping the runner still on the road, but we survived and made it in one piece. there were definitely some times on a lonely road inthe middle of new jersey when i thought i had been running way too long and that the support car had fucked up and sent me down the wrong road, but in the end it all worked out and was a lot of fun.

i was a little scared going in to the race. i hadn't really run in a week because my knee had been sore. it felt fine on the shakeout the day before, but an easy 3 mile shakeout is very different from hammering out an 8 and a 6 miler. my first leg was 8.05 in the middle of the day. felt pretty good out of the gate. cruised through 3ish feeling pretty good, crushed it up a big hill and was beginning to feel it, but there was a mandatory 2 minute stop to cross a road. felt fine after that for a little further then at probably 4 or 4.5 shit began to hit the fan. myknee tightened up again. another hill was met with a series of dry heaves. felt real poor for a while. i was expecting to finish in like 53 or 54 based off how i felt, so i was pretty shocked and pleased to come around a corner at 47:50 and see ragz there for the next handoff.

next leg was supposed to just be a quick easy 2.5 to end the race but ragz is a wimp and decided he can't run with a 101 fever so i had to step up and take 6.55. pretty dehydrated going in but felt surprisingly good off the line. began to struggle about half way through. stuff started to tighten up. managed to hang on for like 6 even throughout, felt strong, still no real signs of any turnover though.

pretty pleased with how the runs went. wasn't sure what to expect going in and i think it went well. really fun road race. bugt sunday morning was rough
